Batterijopslagsysteem als een service – Cactos

Offer shore power with stored energy

Van commerciële locaties tot projecten op netniveau: de batterijopslagsystemen van Cactos maken slimmer energieverbruik overal mogelijk.

How an energy storage system helps you

Challenge A:

The grid connection is insufficient for shore power

[Your existing grid connection is sized for base load and often can't handle the additional megawatts shore power requires. Upgrading means capacity assessments, permits, excavation, and a new transformer station – a process that can take years and cost millions. An energy storage system can be installed within months, and leasing means no large upfront capital.

The energy storage system covers the extra power required when a vessel connects to shore power.

This way, your grid connection is no longer an obstacle to offering shore power.](/content/nl/industrieen/oplossing-copy-2#/index.html)

Challenge B:

Sufficient grid connection, but demand charges skyrocket.

[Even if your grid connection can handle shore power, demand charges can multiply in the worst case. When a vessel connects to shore power, it requires several megawatts of power. Demand charges are often based on the month's highest peak. Offering shore power can lead to demand charges tens of thousands of euros higher than before.

When a vessel connects to shore power, part of the power comes from the energy storage system.

This reduces grid power peaks and you pay lower demand charges.](/content/nl/industrieen/oplossing-copy-2#/index.html)

Optimized schedule – every day

The Cactos energy storage system works automatically in the background, ensuring your port always uses electricity in the most cost-effective way. This is handled by the Cactos Spine control software without any action required from you.

When electricity is cheap, the energy storage charges. Before a vessel arrives, Cactos anticipates the need and automatically begins discharging to support your shore power system. When no vessels are connected, it optimizes your port's electricity use in other ways: for example, by shifting consumption to the battery when the electricity price rises.

The energy storage also participates in ancillary service markets, generating additional revenue even when there are no other demands.

Energy storage for ports

MYLO

Modular energy storage for small and medium-sized facilities

Mylo is a next-generation liquid-cooled energy storage system suited for facilities with a power requirement of 0.5–2 MW. Multiple Mylo units can be installed in parallel to achieve the required system power.

System capacity from 520 kWh

System power from 260 kVa

nevado

Modular energy storage for large-scale facilities

Nevado is a liquid-cooled energy storage system developed for large-scale projects. It is designed to operate reliably even under the most demanding conditions.

Available in three versions with a power output of over 2 MW and a capacity of over 4 MWh per unit. By combining multiple units, the system can be scaled up to 50 MWh.

System storage capacity: 4–50 MWh

System power: 2–25 MW

How to get started

  1. Free assessment
We map your existing grid capacity, vessel schedules, and power requirements. You receive a concrete cost-benefit analysis and a recommendation for the right solution.
  2. Sizing and agreement
We design a solution that fits your needs together with you. You choose your own financing model – leasing or direct purchase – and always receive monitoring, maintenance and service.
  3. Installation and setup
We install the energy storage system at your port and ensure a smooth commissioning process.
  4. Operation
Once the project is complete, the energy storage system supports shore power needs and optimises the port's wider electricity use. Between vessel calls, the energy storage participates in the ancillary services market and generates additional revenue.

Trust the process

You'll receive ✔️ An assessment of whether your grid connection is sufficient for shore power
✔️ An estimate of the solution's profitability for your specific site
✔️ A recommendation on the right energy storage size for your port

300+ installed energy storage systems

We operate and optimise a fleet of over 300 energy storage systems around the clock using weather forecasts, advanced algorithms and machine learning. With our systems, you can participate in Nord Pool wholesale markets and ancillary service markets. We are also one of the first battery storage operators on the joint transmission and distribution network congestion management marketplace in Finland, providing a significant additional revenue stream.

Nordic partner from start to finish

Cactos systems are developed and built entirely in Finland at our factory in Kempele, with no involvement from external parties. Our systems and software are built with the latest technology and meet bank-level security to IEC 62443 standard.
